Work

Data Abuse Website

  • It encourages change in iPhone carrier's data plan policies
  • It took 2 weeks
  • A colleague & I jointly designed and developed it
  • Visit DataAbuse.com

Technologies Used: Wordpress, PHP, JQuery, HTML/CSS

After finally getting fed up with the way people are treated by iPhone Carriers, a colleague and I decided to do something about it. We built a site dealing with "Data Abuse" which explains what Data Abuse is, some real life examples of it, and what people can do about it.

For my part of the project:

  • I helped to design the interface and the visual mockups
  • I customized Wordpress to suit the needs of the site

SportFit Canada Web App

  • It is a tool to keep kids healthy and active
  • It took 4 months
  • I created the Flash Video Player, the PDF generator, and the visual design for the CMS
  • Visit sportfitcanada.com

Technologies Used: Ruby on Rails, Flash, Actionscript, Photoshop

SportFit Canada's purpose is to encourage school aged kids to stay healthy and engage in sports. Kids participate in a series of challenges, enter the results into a web application, and are then told what sports they would excel at.

SportFit's problem was that their existing web app was dated, hard to use, and visually cluttered. Analytic Design Group and partner company Twisted Lime Media were hired to design and develop a beautiful, well thought out, and powerful interface for teaching kids about sports, suggesting sports they would be good at, and giving them a place to find sports organizations.

SportFit's problem is now solved. Thousands of school aged kids have a place to learn about different sports, find out which sport is for them, and get in contact with sports organizations easily and enjoyably.

For my part of the project:

  • I developed the video player for the site using Flash and Actionscript
  • I designed the visual mockups for the CMS
  • I developed the application's PDF generator with Ruby on Rails

Face of Homelessness Website

Technologies Used: HTML/CSS

The primary goal of this school project was to learn how to create an effective advocacy website for a social cause.

I chose homelessness in Vancouver as my cause, because I believe that, to many people, the homeless are viewed as one big collective drug problem and nothing more. By making a website that links faces to names, and an explanation of that person ended up on the street, I hoped to increase the amount of empathy, understanding, and eventually assistance these people receive.

For my part of the project:

  • I designed the wireframes
  • I designed the visual mockups
  • I marked up the HTML for the site and styled it with CSS

Scorekeeper Web App

Technologies Used: Ruby on Rails, HTML/CSS, JQuery, Photoshop

The primary goal of this school project was to learn how to create a Ruby on Rails Web App.

The inspiration for this project came from a need in my own life. I wanted to be able to track my grocery expenses, how many sit-ups I could do at kickboxing, and how many hours a day I spent working on projects.

ScoreKeeper is a web application that allows people to track, compare and combine their life scores like expenses, times, distances, weights, etc, all into a single service. The premise is that it’s easier to improve tomorrow, if you know where you stood yesterday.

To complete this project:

  • I designed the wireframes
  • I designed the visual mockups
  • I developed the application's back-end using Ruby on Rails
  • I marked up the HTML for the application and styled it with CSS

SWAN Vancouver Website

  • It helps sex workers find crucial Information
  • It took 3 months
  • I Designed it's Layout & Developed it's CMS
  • Visit SWAN Vancouver

Technologies Used: PHP, MySQL, HTML/CSS, OmniGraffle

The primary goal of this school project was to make it easy and confidential for women sex workers in Vancouver to find answers to important Safety, Health, Legal and other questions online.

My part of the project was to design an easy user interface with quick access to important content, and to develop a custom, multi-lingual content management system that allowed the members of SWAN to manage news, events, and answers to questions.

For my part of the project:

  • I designed the wireframes
  • I researched and documented the technical requirements
  • I hand coded (with PHP) a content management system that allows SWAN members to update the site from a password protected admin area
  • I marked up the HTML for the site and styled it with CSS
